Getting a kid to talk over the phone even using FaceTime, can be a bit of a challenge if you rely strictly on questions like, “How was your day?” Establish a new routine that’s more likely to get the conversation going by asking the following:
- What was your high moment today?
- What was your lowest moment today?
- What was the funniest thing to happen to you today?
If you establish this as a pattern or routine when you make contact with your child, he or she will likely be thinking in advance about what to tell you. While you’re at it, don’t forget to recall your own “High, Low, Ha-Ha” to share with them.
